Most of us, deep down inside, have some insecurities. This is not new nor is it uncommon. Everyone has insecurities; its part of life. Problems can begin however when your opinion of yourself has become so low that it is seriously affecting your every day life in an adverse way. This poor self-esteem, what some might call “a skewed opinion of yourself” or an “unreal picture of who you really are” ,opens the door to undo suffering.

When your “toxic self talk” drowns out common sense and is distorting your reality to the point where you feel you are worthless, don’t deserve to live or at the very least, deserve no pleasure or happiness in your life – then its time to get some professional help.

Often times a person suffering with low esteem will interpret everyday occurrences in such away as to reinforce this low opinion of themselves. They expect the worst out comes because of whom they are and will receive no complementary words of encouragement because they know “who they really are.”

A feeling of low self worth or esteem is developed over time and its roots are often found in childhood experience. If a child constantly failing at school or does not do well at sports or other competitive situations, they can often experience identity issues, especially when they reach their teens. How a parent deals with the situation is what directly impacts whether or not a child will develop a healthy self-image. Self esteem issues can result of harsh or neglectful parent.

Many people suffering from low self-esteem will try to cover it up socially by over compensating. They are sometimes the person who you would never suspect to have this poor image of them selves. They can be highly competitive, perfectionists who continually remind others of their successes. Underneath however, they live in constant fear that their true identity will be unmasked and everyone will see them for who they really are.

The truth is that people who suffer from low self-esteem have fixated on their poorer attributes while at the same time totally and completely ignoring the wonderful attributes that they have. This unbalanced, incomplete and unreal picture of who rules their life.

The good news is that people who suffer from low self-esteem can be helped to reclaim their lives by getting the proper help they need and overcome the anxiety and fear. The hardest part for anyone is to have the courage to take that first step. It is our desire that you will take that step.
